Product Description
This product is part of my Test Prep and Interactive PowerPoints Bundle: Fairy Tale Edition.

I have created a literacy system that is modeled after award-winning software (but without the astronomical price!). My fluency and comprehension system, which is aligned with the Common Core and the Indiana Academic Standards, uses the technology in PowerPoint and does the following:

• runs independently of the internet, so there are no issues with the internet crashing or the system working slowly because of the number of people using the program.

•has a no-hassle terms of use policy, which means there aren’t any licensing or renewal concerns

•employs features similar to those found in award-winning software.

•provides supports that teach students how to look back into the text in order to respond to text-based questions.

•employs the science behind brain research to help students improve upon their reading fluency and comprehension.

•measures student knowledge with multiple choice questions written in the same manner as the questions found on the new generation of assessments

•is differentiated so that students can select their “just-right” level in order to maximize their learning.

•reviews a multitude of standards that will help students retain what you previously taught them.

•provides students with IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK of their answers and an EXPLANATION of incorrect answers (on the multiple-choice items).

*affords students the opportunity to review 2 point, 1 point, and 0 point responses to the constructed response item.

Here's what's included in the system:

Fluency Practice: Students must read a story before the words disappear off of the screen. Students have the option of selecting the red speed (slow), yellow speed (medium) or green speed (fast). Students may then read the passage again (repeated reading!) or move on to the comprehension assessment. Optional: Students can listen to the selection before the fluency work begins.

Comprehension Assessment-Students respond to 14 multiple choice questions modeled after the questions on the new generation of College and Career Ready Assessments. Built-in supports provide the students with hints so that they know which part of the passage to reread in order to arrive at the correct answer.

Constructed Response Item-Students respond to a text-dependent constructed response item that is related to the reading passage.

Teacher Pack: The teacher pack contains the following:
-the specific standards addressed (both Common Core and Indiana Academic Standards)
-ideas for suggested use
-a Student Response Card to record answers
-a physical copy of the story, multiple choice questions, and constructed response item
-a writing frame for the constructed response item to help students struggling with this type of item.
-Grading Rubric
-Quick Comments Card to let students know what they did correctly and the areas in which they need to improve
-answer key to the multiple choice questions
-a 2 point, 1 point, and 0 point response to the constructed response item

Installment two uses the story of Cinderella. I used this fairy tale for the following reasons:
1. Students must be familiar with fairy tales so that they understand allusions to fairy tales in other literary works.
2. The Flesch-Kincaid reading level is 5.8. This makes it just the right level to help students with their fluency, as reading passages used in fluency work shouldn't be too complicated. They will also be able to really understand the questions that are being asked.
