Your students know how to read but do they know how to test? Middle school students faced with high stakes testing often express anxiety and uncertainty about how they should tackle the demands and expectations of taking tests. In order to build their capacity and confidence in test taking, these 5 activities have been put together to prepare your students for maximum success.
The following test taking strategies are targeted in this package:
1. Identifying the textual features found within tests and how to use
2. Steps to the test taking process
3. Recognizing what is explicitly stated vs what must be inferred
4. General to specific categorizing skills for note taking and annotating text
5. Navigating through a computer based testing platform
Although the activities within each the stations may not all be expressly created by me, the activities/resources have been strategically selected to provides students with a holistic approach to test taking. Links to each of the resources are included throughout in order to help in the facilitation of each of the activities.
Single classroom use prior to testing with various stations set up around the room for students to participate in and explore.
Shared use between teachers with students rotating through several classes, each with a different station activity for easy set up and delivery
Reading camp activities or Saturday School resources.
