After several years in the classroom during this age of high-stakes testing, I have heard many crazy strategies students have used to determine the correct answer on multiple choice and reading comprehension tests from, "I chose the answer because I had never seen the information before," to, "I picked it because it was the longest answer choice." If your students are like mine, then the words, "That test was so easy!" fill you with dread. Suddenly, hopeful anticipation of test scores becomes a knowing "Uh-Oh" of anxiety.
Broken down into three sections - types of questions, choosing multiple choice answers, and passage structure- this two page printable handout provides students with some basic tips and strategies applicable to reading comprehension tests. Students gain awareness of where to look for answers within the passage and how to eliminate some multiple choice answer selections.
