High-stakes testing causes immeasurable stress for students and teachers alike. I can pinpoint the moment I began feeling less stress about high-stakes testing; it was during a meeting early in my teaching career when a coworker shared his experiences as a state test grader. Once I knew the inner workings of the way the tests were scored, I felt I could make a plan of attack and share it with my students. Years later, the same tips and tricks hold true, and my students' test scores continue to improve as they learn to apply valuable test-taking tips and tricks to their everyday schoolwork. My students take this "insider information" and apply it daily so that by the time testing rolls around in the spring, they feel confident and well-prepared. Rather than making high-stakes testing a mystery, we prepare for it all year long, so that by the time it comes along, my students feel ready to show what they know! Use this information, adapt it to fit the high-stakes testing you encounter, and enjoy the freedom of Stress-Free Testing!
