Finally, a way to capture oral language skills of incoming kindergarten students!!! Research continues to tie oral language levels to reading ability and to overall school success. Using this 22-item test allows schools to gather local data and make independent decisions about:
1. The role of oral language skills, and
2. Interventions that can build them.
This group-administered test was developed by extending the items on the K-TALK group screen, giving the resulting longer test to hundreds of kindergarten students, and adding an Excel file for creating colorful pie charts.
Either the classroom teacher, the school SLP, or both can give the test, which takes about 30 – 45 minutes from start to finish. Although the actual test booklet is sold for $4.95, the other material is free. This includes complete administration and scoring instructions, background information, language level indicators, and the Excel file for making pie charts.
