This is an assessment that addresses the semi-permeability of the cell membrane in the presence of starch, glucose and indicators.
Diffusion of molecules through the cell membrane is an important topic for understanding of cell function. This assessment can be used for pre-testing, when you teach this lesson, at the end of the topic, for midterm review, for end-of-year exam review.
This assessment was initially created to support my students through the required New York State lab and state Regents exam preparation in June. I teach 9th and 10th graders. Many of my students are in co-taught biology, and do much better to review and assess the state requirements in smaller bits. This is just one piece of a larger lab unit that's required for all students in NY.
Even if you aren't from NY, it's important to assess your students' understanding of the process of diffusion.
