Three new chemotherapy drugs to treat liver cancer have been developed by Hope Pharmaceuticals - Canceron, Hepivane, and Liverixil. Students become part of a research team that will be responsible for determining the most effective concentration for one of the chemotherapy drugs. They will need to determine the highest possible concentration that can be utilized before it starts to destroy the function of healthy liver cells. The lab uses hydrogen peroxide and liver (or raw potato) combined with concentrations of "chemotherapy drug" created by the student investigators to test liver function. Materials are cheap and easy to assemble. Setup instructions are included. This is part of the Cell Division, Cancer and Chemotherapy lesson plan.
