This student lab experiment includes students identifying independent and dependent variables, writing a hypothesis in the "If...then..." format, collecting data (with a control unit!) as well as graphing and interpreting their results. Great for beginning of the year or your scientific method unit. Lab takes at least part of 2 class periods because you need a day for the paper to sit in the sunlight/under a lamp. Papers can be taped to a window or put under an incandescent lamp if you cannot place outside.
While this will be best for a middle school or junior high level student, it can be used for higher and lower grades as well.
