Students organize and classify 24 events about Texas colonization and empresarios on a timeline from Moses Austin to the first Texas census. They also answer 4 questions and complete 2 tasks for 11 items of their choice. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction to fill out the pieces in and extra pieces for students to add additional events. This could work for a sub! The answers are provided where appropriate.
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--Moses Austin meets with Governor Martinez
--the Lively brought settlers to the Brazos instead of the Colorado
--Coahuila y Tejas created
--Law of April 6, 1830 passed
--DeWitt’s contract was not renewed
--Identify and discuss at least 4 challenges and 3 successes encountered by Austin and the Old 300 from getting the settlement approved till being in Texas for a full 2 years.
--Describe the type of person who fulfilled Mexico’s requirements for settlers. Those requirements aside, could you have up and left your home to become one of the Old 300, why or why not?
***a teacher's note is included in the file describing an alternate way students can complete this activity***
