Texas History students review the Civil War and Reconstruction in Texas by completing a timeline activity and answering 4 questions. There are 29 items for students to place on the timeline which they must also classify according to a system detailed in the instructions. They have one task to complete for 9 items of their choice, and another task to complete for 3 other items of their choice. All instructions are provided in the handout. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction in which to fill out the pieces. The answers are included and this could work for a sub!
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--Ordinance of Secession was adopted
--Houston was removed as TX governor
--Galveston fell to Union forces
--Battle at Brownsville
--Robert E. Lee surrendered
--Battle of Palmito Ranch
--black codes enacted by TX legislature
--Texas ratified the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments
--Who were Unionists, Secessionists, and Vigilantes, and what role did each play in the Civil War in Texas?
--Create a one line slogan to sum up EITHER the Civil War or Reconstruction from the Texan point of view.
