Looking forward to incorporating even more of these into my class next year!"

In this bundle you will receive:

Principles of a Just War
Was the Texas Revolution a Just War? Examine the Texas Revolution through the lens of a Just War. In this activity, students will work with a partner to read and take notes on the history and development of the concept of a Just War. After reviewing the history, they will then examine each of the principles and reword them into everyday language. Once they have familiarized themselves with this concept, you can examine any war you are teaching – Was the Texas Revolution Just? Use this activity as your unit opener to kick off your Texas Revolution unit.

The Texas Revolution Museum
In this activity, students will learn about the Texas Revolution as they visit four different stations in a museum-like experience. At each station, your students will be exposed to primary source images, quotations, maps and readings as they learn about the key events in the Texas Revolution.

Famous Texans of the Revolution
The use of word walls are beneficial for your ELL and struggling students. Use these colorful portraits to create a word wall of famous Texans from the Texan Revolution. Each page includes a title, portrait and a primary source quote.

The Texas Revolution Sequencing
In this activity, students will create summaries of the different events leading to and in the Texas Revolution. A graphic organizer is provided to assist your students. Once their summaries are created, they will create a Human Timeline by posting their placard (slide from the PowerPoint) and sharing their summary with the class. All of the images from the placards help serve as a visual cue for your students. Once you have reviewed the events in chronological order, you can lead a class discussion by creating a Human Spectrum.

The Fredonian Rebellion
The Fredonian Rebellion is the first event leading to the Texas Revolution. But are all revolutionaries heroes? In this activity, students will read and take notes on the Fredonian Rebellion while examining the essential question – Should Haden Edwards be considered a hero? The lesson starts by guiding them through a notetaking activity called “Yes/No But...” Students will then analyze their notes and create a Janus Figure depicting both points of view of the essential question.

The Alamo
Imagine that you are one of the Alamo walls in 1836. What would you have seen? Experienced? In this activity you will challenge your students to write a story describing what they would have experienced if they had been at the Battle of the Alamo from the point of view of a wall.

Texas History Review
This is an activity to promote higher level thinking during reviews. In the "Odd One Out" students are given primary source images from which they have to analyze and develop patterns. Once they have detected the pattern, they have to identify which image is the "Odd One Out" - doesn't fit the pattern. Students are then required to write justification statements on their answer.

The Law of April 6, 1830
Allow your students to experience the emotions involved with the Law of April 6, 1830. This activity will invoke the emotions felt by the colonists after the decree. Your students will begin to understand the causes of the Texas Revolution as they experience several new "laws" have been passed that affect them.
