What if your students walked in and the unthinkable occurred...they had to pay taxes for everything they used to get for free? You want to sit in a desk? Sorry that is a $1. You have a question? That will be $.50. Once you get through the outrage, students will make an emotional connection to the plight of the Texas colonist under the Law of April 6th.
The students will be charged with creating a newscast of the Texas Revolution. The PBL allows for differentiation based on your student's level of technology, skill level, and class size.
*Hook activity- the new "rules," and the provisions of the law of April 6th, 1830
*Entry document- a two page (BIE style) document with a calendar, rubric, and check points to use as quizzes or as building blocks for their grades.
*Word Wall with two sets of task cards that will have the students interacting with the new vocabulary.
