PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Texas Revolution -

The Law (Decree) of April 6, 1830

Allow your students to experience the emotions involved with the Law of April 6, 1830. This activity will invoke the emotions felt by the colonists after the decree. Your students will begin to understand the causes of the Texas Revolution as they experience several new "laws" have been passed that affect them.

This experiential activity will allow you to use it as a hook for your entire Texas Revolution unit. Once your students have participated, you will have them analyze a primary source – the actual articles of the Law of April 6, 1830. For a processing activity, students will write a letter to the governor of Cohuila y Tejas protesting the new laws.

This activity includes:

- A detailed lesson plan
- Articles from the Law of April 6, 1830
- A graphic organizer
- A processing activity

(A) analyze the causes, major events, and effects of the Texas Revolution, including the Battle of the Alamo, the Texas Declaration of Independence, the Runaway Scrape, and the Battle of San Jacinto;
7th Grade:
(3) History. The student understands how individuals, events, and issues related to the Texas Revolution shaped the history of Texas. The student is expected to:
(A) trace the development of events that led to the Texas Revolution, including the Fredonian Rebellion, the Mier y Terán Report, the Law of April 6, 1830, the Turtle Bayou Resolutions, and the arrest of Stephen F. Austin;
