Have students become more independent by providing them with a checklist for the text-analysis essay where they use different colors to ensure they have included all parts. This is a great strategy to use to get students to revise and edit their work. This checklist comes with an exit ticket as well. My students' writing greatly improved when I started using this strategy and spending time in class evaluating, revising, and reflecting using this resource. This is especially helpful for English 11 students taking the Regents Exam.
