This packet includes four activities that will give young writers practice in writing a persuasive piece in response to text. Each topic has two pieces of text, and a writing prompt. Teachers can give their students specific instructions for what is expected in the finished product. For example, fourth grade students will be expected to write a longer, more detailed piece than third graders, and so on. A very simple planning page and rubric are included. Many states have adopted specific rubrics for writing that teachers may want to use instead. The four topics covered in these activities are:
• Should all students participate in organized groups and teams?
• Should children spend more time outdoors?
• Should students be taught a second language in elementary school?
• Should all students take art and music classes?
These activities are perfect for preparing students for writing tests.
