What educators are saying

Excellent addition to student interactive notebooks and the basis of a great classroom bulletin board - Thanks for creating!
I used this with grade 2/3 students because of the chain activity, but looking forward to using the whole package with older students next year.

Description

Increase reading comprehension with text connections! Everything you need to teach students how to make authentic text connections is included. Full-color classroom posters, anchor charts, worksheets, graphic organizers, bookmarks and more are all in one place! Just add text! A digital version is also included for use in your Google Classroom.

This resource can be completed on paper or online with laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, or any device that supports Google Slides. The included Teacher's Guide includes access to the link that will allow you to make your own copy of the resource for use in Google Classroom/Google Drive.

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:

Classroom Posters: A full-color poster for each type of text connection is included. Each poster contains an image and description of the specific type of text connection.

Anchor Chart: The anchor chart can be used to guide students through the cognitive process of making connections while reading.

Graphic Organizer: The graphic organizer includes prompts and sentence frames to assist students in identifying the differences between each type of text connection.

Bookmarks: Each bookmark includes directions and a sentence frame, making it easier for students to make text to self, text to text, and text to world connections. Three bookmarks fit one page.

Sticky Notes: The sticky notes templates can be used again and again! Students add sticky notes to the correct spaces as they read the text and make connections.

Worksheet: The text connections worksheet can be used for independent practice or homework. Students are required to connect something in the text to something in their life, another text, and the world.

Tracker: The tracking worksheet is perfect for making text connections throughout the year. There is space for students to record connections with four different texts. The tracker worksheet makes a great addition to an interactive notebook or reading folder.

Link Up: The text connections link up is an interactive and engaging class activity. First, students write their connections in the designated spaces on the link up worksheet. Next, students color the strips specific colors and cut them out. Finally, the links are attached to the specific text connections posters. Links can be added throughout the year as new texts are read.

Notepad: Craft a fun text connections notepad! This activity is a perfect addition to any reading unit! First, students complete the text connections notepad template. Next, they cut out the notepad pieces and fasten them together with a staple or a brad. If time allows, students can add color to their notepads. The finished product is a great piece of work to display at Open House or add to student portfolios.
