Learning Objective

The student will make connections to personal experiences, ideas in other texts, and things happening in society.

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce text connections to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 50-slide PowerPoint is designed to introduce your students to the 4 types of text connections: text-to-self, text-to-text, text-to-media, and text-to-world. After using this PowerPoint, your students will be pros at making meaningful text connections as they read.

In this PowerPoint, students differentiate between deep connections and surface connections. They are given many opportunities to determine whether connection examples should be classified as a deep connection or a surface connection, and they are encouraged to always write deep connections. After each type of connection is introduced, students read a short passage and practice writing their own deep connection to the passage.

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!
