Students should be instructed to bring their text to the center so they can find and justify their answers. The text dependent question cards will ask about the main idea, details, illustrations, captions, bold words, unfamiliar words, difficult parts of the text, authors purpose, text connections, characters, relationships between characters, setting, effects of the character's actions, point of view, comparing and contrasting, and more.
Create text dependent thinkers and promote text talk in your center groups with ANY informational text or fiction piece. Students will use speaking and listening skills in their Kagan groups (or guided reading groups for younger students) while finding and discussing text evidence to support their answers.
This is a great way to integrate science and social studies into the reading block as you may use this center with ANY literature or nonfiction text!
