These Fiction based comprehension questions were created out of a need for students to be accountable to their independent reading time. I wanted a way in which topics could be selected without having to use a calendar of ideas – and so the idea of Pick and Answer cards were born!
They can be used in a variety of ways – and can be cut and left as
rectangle cards or cut around the person for a more “shaped” form.
Why 32 questions for each set? I based it off of a “typical” school week of 4 Weeks, with independent reading time of 4 days a week (usually 1 day a week is testing, make up work, group activities, etc)
I have left all of the “cards” in a basket in a designated location and allowed the students to pick a card of their choice and record in their reading notebooks/logs/journals. I have also selected the cards for various students and left them in their books as bookmarks for that day/reading time. The possibilities are endless! Just print and laminate the ones you need.
