With the new emphasis on text-based questions, I find it very handy to have a set of question cards readily available for easy reference.
These are 28 of the text-based questions that I find most useful for close reading, guided reading and whole group discussions.
These open-ended questions are designed to be used with any narrative text.
I often have students select a question to use as a writing prompt. Students also choose cards to bring home to discuss with a family member as they read in the evening. Parents often tell me that simply adding a few of these cards to a child's guided reading bag leads to much richer discussions at home.
I hope you find these useful. Please feel free to contact me at Annegardner4@gmail.com with any questions.
