Description

These four print-and-go trifolds target the skill of citing text evidence when answering questions about a reading passage. Use these text evidence trifolds over the course of 4 days to provide targeted instruction on this topic.

As I was creating these trifolds, I pictured myself using them with small groups of students. Specifically, I envisioned sitting around a table with a group of students who needed some targeted instruction and additional opportunities to practice citing text evidence as they read fiction and nonfiction texts and answered follow-up questions. That being said, however, you can also successfully use these trifolds in a large group setting or assign them as independent work.

These citing evidence trifolds progress from basic to more complex. Answer keys are included, along with additional teacher notes for EACH tri-fold. CHECK OUT THE PREVIEW to get a good feel for what you will get if you choose to purchase this resource.

Trifold #1: All of the questions in this passage have answers that are directly stated in the reading passage. In this introduction book, the directions tell students to use their highlighters as flashlights to “shine their light” on text evidence they find that proves an answer to one of the questions. This trifold includes one nonfiction passage with 4 follow-up comprehension questions and one fiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions.

Trifold #2: All but one of the questions in this trifold have answers that are directly stated in the reading passage. However, in this trifold, students will use a sentence starter when they cite text evidence to prove their answer. Sentence starters are listed on Panel A. This trifold includes one nonfiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions and one fiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions.

Trifold #3: All of the questions in this third trifold require students to make inferences in order to answer each question. Again, students will be asked to use a sentence starter when they cite text evidence to prove their answer. Possible sentence starters that can be used with inference questions are listed on Panel A. This trifold includes one historical fiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions and one persuasive essay with 3 follow-up comprehension questions.

Trifold #4: The main objective for this trifold is expose students to multiple choice questions. Students will likely encounter questions like these on standardized tests. There is space below each multiple choice question where students can cite evidence that supports the answer they chose. This trifold includes one realistic fiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions and one nonfiction passage with 3 follow-up comprehension questions.
