How will these reading comprehension passages benefit my students?
These interactive, hands-on passages provide your students with fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and written response practice. With the introduction of the Common Core standards, comes a big shift in students being able to not only comprehend text but use and state evidence directly from the text to support their understanding. These passages allow your students to build and practice this skill in a fun, engaging manner!
How do these passages work?
Students read the passage three times for fluency. They keep track of the amount of times they read the passage (optional). The consistent format of the passages guide your students through the process of looking back into the text to support their comprehension and understanding with text-based evidence skills. Students will have fun using their crayons to highlight and look for evidence. Finally, students practice responding to the text through a Read & Respond writing activity. These response questions cover many big comprehension areas such as author’s purpose, inference, visualizing, questioning, identifying the main/central idea, compare and contrast, making connections, and more!
When can I use these reading passages in my classroom?
These passages are great to use in a whole group setting, small group setting, RTI, Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention, special intervention classrooms, homework, tutoring, or as center work or independent work within the classroom
Who are the passages for?
The passages are written within a second and third-grade reading range, making them perfect for first-grade stretch texts or first-grade students reading above grade level, second and third-grade independent reading, below-target third-grade readers, at-risk fourth-grade students, intervention students, and small group settings. No formal F&P or DRA level is assigned to the passages, but you can download the free preview file to see how these passages will work for your students.
Will these passages help me integrate other content areas into my reading lessons?
YES! This edition contains topics that integrate many science and social studies concepts, saving you time and resources! Practicing fluency and comprehension has never been so fun for students – and easy for educators!
