Task 1: Place these task cards around the room for your students to use as a scavenger hunt. Have your students record their answers on a separate sheet of paper. Once students are done, go over each card with the students to check for comprehension.
Task 2: After your students have completed “medical school”, they are ready to perform surgery. Have your students complete text feature surgery by cutting nonfiction text features out of newspapers or magazines and gluing them onto a large sheet of construction paper. Have the students label each feature they find on the construction paper.
Task 3: Have your students show each other the “surgery” they performed by explaining their text features they found.
