This game includes the following terms:
Bolded text – Darker text that signals the word is important
Bulleted list – information presented in a list with a black dot or shape in front of each item
Caption – A sentence that gives information about an illustration or photograph
Chart or table – An organized presentation of data using numbers
Colored text - Text written in different colors to signal its importance
Graph – A organized presentation of data using a visual display
Heading - Identifies the topic of a text section
Illustration – A picture or a drawing
Italics – Slanted text that signals the word is special for some reason
Labels – Words that help the reader understand a drawing or its parts
Map – A scale drawing of places mentioned in the text
Photograph – A visual image captured digitally
Subheadings -Identify additional topics under a heading
Text box – A box containing additional information on a topic
Timeline – A line showing important dates
Title – The name of the material
PREPARE: Print out different BINGO cards for each student plus one set of calling cards. The calling cards are available 4 to a page to provide a larger visual for the students or 9 to a page to make keeping track of words called easier. These cards come with and without the text feature term. These cards also come in grayscale, however, a few of the cards work better in color.
DISTRIBUTE: Hand out one Bingo card to each student (20 different cards are available, if you need additional cards you will need to repeat cards The cards come in 20 different colors or in black and white).
CALL: The caller should pull out one image, describe the text feature and show it to the students or read the description of the text feature to the students.
MARK CARD: The students place a marker on the text feature term if it is on their card.
WINNING: The Bingo grid is 4 spaces by 4 spaces. A students wins when 4 in a row are covered vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. To make the game last longer, you can require 2 (or more) lines to be covered to win.
