This graphic organizer was created to help students work backward to find the main idea. It actually serves two purposes. First, it helps students become familiar with the purpose for headings in nonfiction text. Second, it lets students work backward, finding important details within a text, and putting those ideas together to find the main idea.
I have included a modified version of this graphic organizer that allows students to sketch the important details. It uses sentence frames to help students develop the main idea.
