Description
After taking notes on text features, I have students do a text feature scavenger hunt with local maps. These are easy to find in a hotel, tourist information booth, or local amusement parks. Students will create their own map based off a book they are currently reading (all of my students are part of a literature circle so they ALWAYS have a book to pull from). With that information, they add text features to the map, explain their purpose and add other essential map parts. This document comes with basic instructions, a content organizer, a rubric, and a sample map organizer.
To differentiate, regular classes would not include a map scale, but this is required of my honors students.
This is adaptable to geography, as I've used a rendition in the past to include physical features as part of an island creation.
