Whole Class: Packet introduces text features. Tells what text features are and the different types. Students brainstorm where they have seen or may find text features. Students then locate each text feature using a book, like their science textbook.
Independent: With a partner, group, or individually, students hunt for these features in magazines and newspapers.
Small Group: *Use with any text of your choice. This allows the packet to be used for the same skill, but different lexile levels of your students.* Text Feature Walk- students preview and predict. Read and discuss. Explain how the text features relate to the article.
Assessment: Assess student understanding of RI.4.7 by having them read an encyclopedia article and answer questions. Students also complete a self-assessment showing how well they understand RI.4.7.
