Description
So useful and flexible! These analysis methods work for any subject, and you can use them over and over. This resource provides you with tools to analyze readings, visuals, and videos:
- “Close Reading” is a text annotation method that ensures students really read and have commentary to share.
- “Close Looking” is an engaging method that provides a structure for analyzing images such as photographs and art.
- “Close Watching” is an innovative method that ensures students pay attention to educational videos and write questions and comments to share.
The resource includes lesson plans with standards, objectives, and step-by-step directions. The editable handouts include graphic organizers that support differentiation. There are also editable rubrics for each lesson and slides to help you get started with image analysis!
WHY GET THIS RESOURCE?
- You can use these methods with any content. They allow you to focus on what to teach, not the methods you’ll use to teach it. Because the content is new, students don’t get bored, they just get down to business.
- Once students learn the methods, you don’t have to start from scratch. No more “I don’t get what to do” (at least after the first time). It’s quite amazing (see the student quotes below).
STUDENT FEEDBACK (errors uncorrected)
- "I like how everything was organized and put together which made it easy for me to get things done."
- "what i like about the class is you clearly explain everything so we understand perfectly which is awesome…"
WHAT YOU GET
- Lesson plans with standards, objectives, differentiation, and step-by-step directions
- Editable rubrics for each lesson
- Close Reading Annotation Cards and a handout with an example of how to annotate
- An editable Video Analysis Graphic Organizer and information about how to use videos in the classroom effectively
- An editable Image Analysis Graphic Organizer, plus PowerPoint slides of 20 Civil Rights Movement photographs and a slide template to add your own
*For copyright reasons, the slide images and lesson plans are not editable.*
*Check out the PREVIEW to SEE the resource!*
You may also like my GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS FOR ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS. There are editable handouts for drawing illustrations, creating infographics, participating in mini debates, and writing explanatory and argumentative essays. You can also use these methods with any content, and again and again.
