Text Me Sight Word Cards are the perfect activity to combine sight word practice and technology. Technology is here to stay and it is important for students to be able to recognize letters on a keyboard—on a phone, a tablet, and a computer. This activity is perfect for teaching this skill, while providing practice for learning sight words!
Run the pages on colored paper or cardstock, and laminate for durability. Fold the cards on the dotted lines to create a tent and stack the words one on top of another. Students will read the sight word and then text (or type) the word on their tablet--you may choose to use an old keyboard for this activity. Students will become familiar with the keyboard, as well as recognize the capital letters on the keyboard and associate them with the lower case letters on the cards.
For extended practice, students may write the words on the enclosed recording sheet. There is a sheet with a picture for tablet use or computer use. After students read, text, and write the word on the front of the card, they turn it around and read, text and write the word on the back. Students work their way through the stack of words, slowly creating a second stack of completed words.
This set includes all 40 of the Pre-Primer Dolch words.
