If you are making the transition to Common Core, these activity cards will be helpful. At grade 5, the Common Core Standards wants students to compare text structures (RI.5.5) and explain how chapters, scenes, and stanzas fit together (RL.5.5). This collection of 30 activity cards TEACHES and REVIEWS these skills! It also includes an easy-fold box. This is great because a box of cards can be given to each guided reading group, handed to a student that needs extra practice, or get placed inside of a literacy center station. This resource makes the Common Core transition easier, saves time when it comes to looking for review materials, and is self-teaching.

The Common Core Standards expectations are different across grade levels. This is why this document was specifically designed for fifth grade. (Four activity cards are on each page for easy printing)

Features Include:

**Questions are posed using different levels of Bloom's Taxonomy to encourage deep levels of understanding

** A variety of genres are included: realistic fiction, historical fiction, informational text, poetry, drama/plays.

**The informational text passages include relevant informational text topics to help students build relevant school background knowledge for social studies and science.

**The activity cards are self-teaching. This is helpful because they actually teach students how to analyze text features, compare the features used between two authors, and explain how information in a plot contributes to a text.

**A tutorial about the different text organization patterns is included (i.e. description, cause and effect, problem and solution, etc.) to teach the organization patterns in addition to helping students analyze them.

**A student recording sheet is provided.

**It also includes an answer key.

****************PLUS, the document includes an easy-fold box for convenient self-storage!******************
