Owl Themed Nonfiction Text Structures Packet
The Common Core Standards require students in 4th and 5th grade to recognize and understand nonfiction text structures:
This packet contains the following for each type of text structure:
*owl themed posters
*interactive journal printables
*photos of journal pages
Analyzing nonfiction text to recognize the text structure is a higher order thinking strategy that is difficult for many students, but through teaching, modeling, and scaffolding instruction, students can grasp this often difficult concept. Use these resources with your own choice of reading passages to help students not only understand, but enjoy learning this concept. Students will love referring to the brightly colored posters which you can use to decorate your walls or a bulletin board. Students may then refer to them the entire year. The graphic organizers and interactive journal pages will help engage your students as they analyze passages of your choice to find evidence of text structure in nonfiction text.
