Create a new level of ✨engagement & support✍ for ELLs and visual learners with these task cards for text organization that include matching labeled photos. This center challenges students to read clues, determine the described text structure, and record their answers. Photos are included to match each text structure task card and are used to support students and differentiate the activity to meet student needs.
My energetic students love when I tape these task cards around the room to let them MOVE while reviewing the organization of passages.
Types of text structure included:
cause and effect
comparison and contrast
main idea and details
posing and answering a question
These 10 task cards for text structure require students to read closely and use clues to determine their answer, which integrates the reading skill of making inferences, which means students practice 2 skills at once! (Woohoo! High-5! ✋)
2 Ways to Play
1. Less support: Search the Room
Post the cards around the room. Independently or in pairs, students locate task cards, read the clues carefully to determine which word bank word is being described, and record their answers on their answer document. (For added support, students can carry the labeled photos with them to refer to as needed.)
2. More support: Stationary Center
Provide students with the task cards and photographs of the answers. Students match the picture cards with the task card descriptions and record their answers on the response sheet.
This activity is based on 4th grade ELA standards.
