Learning Objective

Students will read nonfiction passages and identify the text structure used by the author. They will then prove their answer by creating a graphic organizer that shows how the passage fits the text structure.

These ten print-and-go nonfiction text structure worksheets are ideal for introducing your students to the five major informational text structures! They include graphic organizers. After reading a passage, students must write key ideas inside the appropriate graphic organizer.

It addresses the following five text structures:

→ Sequence

→ Compare and Contrast

→ Cause and Effect

→ Problem and Solution

→ Description

The first five worksheets include graphic organizers making them perfect for a guided practice opportunity. I put these papers under the document camera and complete them with my students.

The next five worksheets were designed to be an independent practice opportunity for students. The graphic organizers have been removed, and students are asked to determine the text structure and then draw their own graphic organizer to justify their answer.

All answer keys are included.
