This resource contains the DIGITAL version of my informational text structure task cards. Two formats are included: Google Forms and Google Slides! This set of 32 task cards will give your upper elementary and middle school students an opportunity to practice reading nonfiction passages and identifying the five types of text structures. The Google Forms version features a multiple choice format, while the Google Slides version contains a short-answer format. These are the text structures addressed in Common Core Reading standards.

Each item contains a nonfiction reading passage. After reading each passage, students will determine the text structure of the passage.

Five common text structures are featured:

→ Sequence

→ Compare and Contrast

→ Cause and Effect

→ Problem and Solution

→ Description

One unique feature about these informational text structure task cards is that each set of four task cards are related to the same topic. Therefore, student have an opportunity to see how different text structures can be applied to a topic, resulting in very different paragraphs. The topics are as follows:

Cards 1-4: Bears

Cards 5-8: The Grand Canyon

Cards 9-12: French Fries

Cards 13-16: Wildfires

Cards 17- 20: Bicycles

Cards 21-24: Glaciers

Cards 24-28: Tsunamis

Cards 29-32: Olympics

How the Google Forms Format Works:

Google Forms are paperless and self-grading. As students complete the activity, grades and data are collected automatically. You will be able to see each student's answers. You will also be able to analyze each question, and view how many students answered each question correctly and incorrectly.

How the Google Slides Format Works:

Google Slides are paperless, as well. There is one task card per slide (32 slides in all). When I created this version, I envisioned teachers using these slides in a group setting, where the teacher and students read the cards and identify the best answer together. They can also be assigned for independent work.
