This worksheet is generic enough to be applied to any story/movie combo, yet specific enough to hit the standard (RL7) every time.
After reading the story, the students have to decide what three events the movie absolutely needs to feature, in their opinion. After they view the film clip, if their chosen events were not included in the movie, they have to explain why the director would have cut that particular scene.
They also have to chart how the movie "stays faithful to or departs from" the original text. (RL7)
Finally, the students have to look at the movie from a directorial stance, and justify why any changes were made.
