Students fully comprehend and can most deeply analyze a text when they write about what they read, daily.
I considered the essential question "How can societal expectations impact our identities?" as I created this set of text-dependent questions for Part-Time Indian. Questions are mostly aligned with RL.8.1 – citing evidence to support an analysis or inference of the text, although standards RL.8.2-5 are also represented in several questions.
In addition to the TDQs, there is a unit introduction activity, an open-note quiz, and a summative assessment. Many of the TDQs can also be turned into longer writing tasks.
I hope these questions help make your novel unit successful – this was many of my students’ absolute favorite book!
