In this package, students will read Aesop’s fable "The Fox and the Lion". Before reading the short text, students will analyze an illustration of the narrative and make predictions about their reading. After reading, students will respond to fifteen multiple choice textual-analysis questions that require deep thinking and close reading of the text. Teachers may choose to have students work on these questions on their own or design a collaborative activity for students to work together to respond to questions. After responding to the textual analysis questions, students will move through a series tasks: visualizing the text, writing about the text, and exploration. Through the tasks, students will draw, write, read closely, and explore new ideas. Each task includes a scoring guide so that students understand how their work will be assessed and can self-monitor as they work on tasks. There is also a comprehensive answer key included for teacher use at the end of the seven-page student packet.
