This unit is designed for an AP, Pre-AP or honors English class.
It contains the following:
A pre-reading activity about he archetypal meaning of seasons,
background information on the American Romantic era complete with open ended discussion questions (which can be incorporated into the Socratic seminar),
an author biography for William Cullen Bryant,
a copy of the poem "Thanatopsis" with guided reading questions and a biblical passage for interpreting allusion,
a Socratic seminar prep sheet,
a Socratic seminar tip sheet,
a Socratic seminar rubric,
AP style multiple choice questions,
and a paper prompt for a two page essay to be done at the completion of the unit.
Answer keys are provided to make it really easy to teach this unit!
The PDF is ready to use with Google classroom, and the format is appropriate to use with Chromebooks or iPads. However, if you don't have access to these resources, you can easily print this out with two pages on one sheet of paper (4 if you use front and back), to make it ready for your class (and the poem itself with the guided reading questions is perfect to use with a substitute).
