This file has several activities to do with the book Thank You, Mr. Falker, by Patricia Polacco.
I believe picture books can be read and enjoyed by all ages. These activities are geared towards upper elementary students. There are a lot of skills that can be learned and addressed through picture books. These activities can be used in a variety of ways, as appropriate for the teacher.
Reflective questions are standards based (Indiana and Common Core), geared towards upper elementary students. Students will need to reflect back upon the text and give details to support their reasoning. They encourage a deeper thinking.
Extension activity is meant to encourage creative thinking and analysis using a quote from the book. Students will create a similar quote of their own and illustrate it.
Questions cards can be used in a variety of ways. They could be used as task cards, for students to move around the room and respond to. I think they would be best for a think-pair-share type atmosphere where students work on their speaking and listening skills. They would also make great discussion starters for a Socratic seminar.
