One of my favorite books to start the year off with is Thank You, Mr. Falker. The wonderfully true story of a little girl struggling as she learns to read. Trisha, the main character, is the author's young self as she overcomes dyslexia. The pain and heartbreak she goes through before meeting Mr. Falker is so touching. Once she learns how to read, there is nothing to stop her.
I have created 12 activities for you to use when teaching this book in your class. They included the following activities:
*Cause and Effect
*Chain of Events
*Writing about a strong emotion
*A Thank You Note
*What Would You Do
Plus, as an added bonus, I've added in two fun background papers (8.5x11 jpeg) and a frame for you to use.
Hopefully your children will receive the message that they can overcome their struggles and help create a better world.
