After teaching students why and how we write thank you notes, this template is a great way to put theory into practice. This document features a template for both on level and below level learners - so this is a great way to implement differentiated learning into your lesson.
When I teach this lesson I firstly use my Thank You note presentation (I also uploaded it to my store) which helps to initially contextualize reasons why we say thank you and gives them an opportunity to make real life connections.
Next I get the class to write a thank you note together - which I write on the board -eliciting an appropriate reason for a thank you note and including all its features, during which I also review all five parts of a letter. I usually address the letter to another teacher in the school, e.g. the P.E. teacher for organizing Sports Day for them. Then I erase our example from the board and give them the template to fill out, preferably using their own experiences. When they do this, I give them a chance to decorate the letter and put it in a envelope. It's a really productive experience for them to then give their enveloped letters to other students or members of staff; further rooting the lesson into real life practice.
