★ Talking Points
There are higher level thinking questions and talking points to prompt student discussion about community. Each one has a page number so that you know exactly where in the story to stop!
These will guide students to deepen their understanding of the SEL skill and respond in meaningful ways. These questions can be printed out on a one page guide or on sticky notes, which will allow you to place them right in the book!

★ Craftivity
The Community Helpers craftivity provides a hands-on, engaging component to help students practice the SEL skill. It helps connect the focus to the picture book and to students' lives. They will make a cooking pot, just like Omu!
★ Task Cards
The task cards provide thought-provoking questions about community helpers. They can be used a few different ways. The cards could be used orally as a whole class discussion or in small groups. Students could also respond to the task cards individually on the recording sheet that is included.
