Word search and crossword vocabulary builder activity to help your students analyze the short story by L. Hughes "Thank you Ma'am". Your literature class or literature circles students will practice vocabulary from the text of the story in filling up the crossword puzzle as well as train their inferences skills in looking for adjectives describing the Mrs.Jones and Roger in the word search activity.
Word search is represented by the same word search grid which comes in three forms (please note it is only one activity, but with optional additional tasks): word search only; word search with list of words to look for; puzzle with additional activity asking students to classify descriptive adjectives into those related to Mrs. Jones and those related to Roger. The last form is a 2-in-1: an engaging puzzle as well as a discussion activity, where you students get to justify their judgments about the nature of the character!
