  • “This is so creative! My students had a great time with it.”

Here's a really cute option for the popular "I am thankful for..." Thanksgiving writing prompt.

The turkey craft is easy to diversify, for a variety of grade levels. Students write something that they are thankful for, on strips of colored paper, then bend them into a loop and glue their writing prompt "feathers" to the top of their turkey.

Younger kiddos can simply write one thing that they are thankful for on the turkey's tummy circle, then add a few looped "feathers", while older students can add as many "thankful feather strips" as they want.

Teacher Comments:

  • "Super fun activity!! [1st grade] Students loved it!!"
  • "Our [2nd grade] turkeys turned out absolutely adorable!!! I will be using this every year!"
  • "Thank you for sharing this fantastic Thanksgiving craft. My third graders loved this craft!"
  • "Too cute! I did this with my ELLs, and used it for several grade levels!"

I've included 8 different options for a center circle. Pick your favorite, or give children a choice.

Click the PREVIEW to see samples/options. Because of the variety, this can be enjoyed by younger, as well as older students, and is easy to adapt, depending on students' writing abilities.

Teacher Comment:

  • “Love this! It was so fun to create and you can modify the writing portion in many ways to meet your class needs.”

I've also included 2 "We're Thankful!" posters to add some extra pizzazz to your Thanksgiving bulletin board or hallway display.

Completed projects make an adorable hallway display.

Teacher Comments:

  • "My students and I LOVED this activity! Their turkeys turned out so cute we displayed them in the hall for all to see!"
  • "We got lots of compliments on our bulletin board."
  • Absolutely love this cute activity for my students! They look adorable hanging in our hallway!"
  • "We hung these up in our classroom and they looked so cute."

Include a blank, brown loop behind the head, if you'd like to suspend completed turkeys back-to-back from the ceiling, which also looks terrific.

I'm Diane from Teach With Me, hoping your kiddos enjoy making Loopy, the cutie patootie turkey.
