A large variety of activities for students to process and practice the virtue of thankfulness/gratitude. Works wonderfully with Thanksgiving, but nothing in this pack is specific to Thanksgiving, so can be used at any time!
See the preview for most of the components.
Included in the pack:
Thankfulness T-chart (large and small) – Use the large icons to make a t-chart on poster paper. Use the single sheet copy for personal, small group t-charts or to put on the wall. List what thankfulness “looks like” (what would you see someone doing?) and “sounds like” (what words would someone who is thankful say?)
Thankfulness Poster – A poster that describes thankfulness. Can be read aloud as a class.
Quotes – 5 quotes that speak to what thankfulness is. These lead to great discussions about thankfulness and how to show it.
Quote processing page – a ½ sheet for students to process what a quote means.
Thankfulness Tree – Students will prewrite things and people they are thankful for in their lives. Then, they will write these things on leaves (patterns included.) Students can either make their own tree, or make a large class tree with the leaves.
Video/Stories – There is 1 video and 2 storybook processing pages. The processing page helps them think about what the story says about THANKFULNESS. Please make sure you view them prior to the students to ensure they are appropriate for your class. Sample answers are included. A book list of other great read alouds connected to thankfulness is also included.
Thankfulness Role Play – 12 situations that commonly happen (enough roles for up to 30 students.) Students can act these out to practice showing responsible choices and using language that shows gratitude and thankfulness.
Thankfulness postcards – Students will write postcards to someone to show their gratitude. They are official postcard size, so you can mail them (copy on cardstock) – or the kids can just deliver them.
Thankfulness Debates – 10 discussion starters about thanksfulness/gratitude – great for Morning Meeting! After discussing, the students can fill out the processing page with a partner.
Thankfulness Word Wall – Common words used when talking about thankfulness. Students can use for speaking and writing.
13 Days of Thankfulness - a home activity students can complete to show their thankfulness for many things in their lives.
