Students will enjoy trying to pursuade their peers or readers whether they should or should not eat turkey at Thanksgiving. There is a bonus activity where students can go to other classes and read their writing. After reading the class would vote whether they will eat or not eat turkey at Thanksgiving. (Ballott included)

Common Core Standards W.1.1, W.2.1, W.3.1, W.4.1 asks students to write opinion pieces/or argumentative pieces of writing.
This activity allows student to take a position and argue their point of view or persuade the audience into thinking what they think. According to Common Core, students are to write for a variety of reasons. This lesson allows students to be creative and have while meeting the goals set forth by Common Core.
