This Thanksgiving activity for the bulletin board features an adorable baby turkey and is a fun way for students in grades 3 to 6 to think about the things they value in their modern lives and why we appreciate them. Help the baby turkey grow up by adding feathers of thoughtfulness to his tail. This activity for the bulletin board addresses the following student skills:
Art and design
Scissor skills (if students cut out feathers)
Empathy for classmates, which can help to reduce bullying
Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what we have. It is almost too easy to look past the things that we appreciate when we have so much. Help the baby turkey grow with thankful thoughts for Thanksgiving.

Preparation and Class Time
Teacher Prep Required-
1. Set up bulletin board by cutting out word graphics and turkey(s). Some care is needed to mount turkey to board so that the feathers can be added.
2. Cut out one feather for each student. For the best finished appearance teachers should cut out each feather, though having students do the cutting is possible.
Class Time Required-
This lesson is designed to take approximately one class period to complete.
Group Size and Variations-
This lesson is best used in group environments of at least 10 students. Smaller groups would need to complete more than one feather each to complete a single turkey.
There are no variations for this activity.
Would be great for substitute work or any time that needs filling. Gives students and teachers a few moments of quiet work time. Its Fun!!
