This is a great activity for students to review the atomic structure of different elements on the periodic table. Students should have some prior knowledge of atomic structure: finding atomic mass, atomic number, protons, neutrons, electrons, drawing Bohr diagrams, determining valence electrons, and identifying elements based on their properties. This activity is aligned with Ohio's New Learning Standards(close to NGSS) for Physical Science. I do this activity with my 9th Grade Physical Science classes, but it could be easily adapted for Chemistry or Junior High science classes. Students will read each clue that provides different information in each for different elements and use their knowledge of atomic structure to identify the element. The element names will be applied to a funny Thanksgiving word puzzle. Each clue must have the right answer to get the correct Thanksgiving phrase at the end. There is an answer key provided for teachers. This is two pages for the student activity and one page for the answer key. Students enjoy doing this activity before Thanksgiving break!
