Thanksgiving Author's Purpose

Looking for an engaging writing activity for Thanksgiving? Search no further! Check out this high interest, low prep author's purpose activity.

Contents Include:
* Color and B&W Author's Purpose Cards
* 4 Writing Prompt Pages
* Pie Slices with Examples of the Different Types of Author's Purpose
* Whole Pies with the Different Author's Purposes Listed

Activities to Try:
* Pass out an Author's Purpose Card and Writing Prompt Page to each student. Have them write a story to go along with their card. For example, if they get a persuade card and pie writing page, the student can write an advertisement trying to get you to buy the pie.
* Laminate the colored cards for use each year or let students color their own Author's Purpose Card.
* This activity is more fun if you give the students, the item they are writing about (like the candy).
* There is a blank on one page if you prefer to use something different from the writing prompts provided.
* Have students match the Pie Slices to the Pie that it represents.
* Use the Whole Pies with the Author's Purposes for a Fly SWAT game.
