Thank you for your interest in this Thanksgiving cross-curriculum social studies & literacy product. If you have been teaching your students about the first Thanksgiving, these beginning reading and writing activities will be a great addition to your materials! Included in this packet you will find 7 pages, each with two sections. Within each section there is a simple illustration of familiar people or items that represent Thanksgiving and three statements that go with this picture. Two of the statements are false and one is true. The students need to read all three sentences, circle the sentence that is correct, then copy that sentence in the primary writing lines provided. Depending on the grade level and reading/writing level of your students, you may read and select the true sentences together as a whole group lesson, or you may choose to use the Thanksgiving sentences as an independent activity in you literacy center. Most of the true statements are fairly easy to locate to provide a high success rate to motivate your primary students to depend on their own thinking more & more. However, there are a couple of “tricky” items to provide a challenge for those students who need it.
Please take a look at the preview to view examples of what I consider the “easy” vs. “challenging” sentences you will encounter in this packet.
